Online identities are starting to become more and more popular in the digital world. We can find them being used on the majority of websites. Websites like Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Deviant Art, and Blogger, require us to create an online identity. Even new video games consoles require the user to create an “avatar” of themselves for online use. Online identities that are meant to expose our likes, dislikes, taste in music, religious views, pretty much everything about us (if we choose to display it) gets posted on the internet. My name is Alex Clarke, I am a Visual Artist and my online identity is clarke.x.core. Clarke.x.core is an identity I have chosen to represent myself online. Clarke.x.core is not really me, but a caricature of me that I use to represent myself in the online world. I am intrigued about who is behind that online identity and the process that created that online identity. This Blog will explore the factors (or lack of) that can make up an online identity, the social issues that come along with having an online identity, and the controversies that online identities have created. It will also explore the life and death of online identities, especially my own.
